Year 5

Our topic this term is ‘Victorians’.  We will be finding out about the lives of Victorians and of children in those times.  In Literacy we will be using the work of two famous authors, Dick King-Smith and Charles Dickens to help us with our work on stories.  At the end of this half term we will also be doing some non-fiction writing.  In Maths we are focusing on counting and calculations and will also be learning our times tables.  In Music we will focus on our singing skills, using songs from the musical Oliver Twist.  We will be using our observation skills in science and art.  Our focus in art is still life drawing and painting in the style of Cézanne.  In Science we will be looking at keeping healthy.  Our P.E. days are Tuesday and Friday.  We will be doing gymnastics and team sports so the children will need to bring an outdoor P.E. kit such as tracksuit and trainers as well as shorts and a t-shirt for gymnastics.
